Baby Rani Maurya resigns as Uttarakhand Governor

Two years before completing her tenure, Uttarakhand Governor Baby Rani Maurya resigned on Wednesday. She tendered her resignation to President Ram Nath Kovind, a Raj Bhawan official said. Baby Rani Maurya had taken over from Krishna Kant Paul at the end of his five-year tenure and was sworn in as the Governor of Uttarakhand on August 26, 2018. Baby Rani Maurya served as Uttarakhand governor for three years. (Coutesy- Twitter) She had completed three years in office as the Governor last month. Baby Rani Maurya is the second woman to be appointed as the Uttarakhand Governor after Margaret Alva. From 1995 to 2000, she was the Mayor of Agra. In 2001, she was a member of the State Social Welfare Board and a member of the National Women’s Commission in 2002. In 1996, she was awarded Samaj Ratna, followed by the Uttar Pradesh Ratna in 1997 and the Nari Ratna award in 1998.
