Canada: Toronto Police arrest three Punjabi men in large drug bust

Ottawa (Canada), October 27: Six people, including three Punjabi men, have been charged in the Peel municipality in Toronto in connection with an international drug trafficking enterprise. Illegal narcotics worth USD 25 million have been seized during the operation. According to a Peel Regional Police statement, Jaspreet Singh, 28, of Brampton, Ravinder Boparai, 27, of Mississauga, and Gurdeep Gakhal, 38, of Caledon were among the six people arrested in the drug bust. As per Peel Regional Police, these individuals were involved in an intricate international drug trafficking enterprise. During the 11-month investigation, illegal narcotics with a street value of more than USD 25 million were seized, including 182 kg of methamphetamine, 166 kgs of cocaine, and 38 kgs of ketamine. "Guns, gangs and drugs are of the highest priority for our service. With funding from the Criminal Intelligence Service Ontario (C.I.S.O) and collaborations with the enforcement community, our investigators have made a significant impact on organized crime in our Region," said Peel Regional Police Chief, Nishan Duraiappah. Their efforts have prevented significant amounts of dangerous narcotics from reaching our community." "Our Specialized Enforcement Bureau, both civilian and uniform members, worked tirelessly to bring this investigation to a successful outcome," Inspector Todd Custance, Specialized Enforcement Bureau, added. "The seizures of these drugs represent a significant financial impact to organized crime, which in turn will limit their ability to finance future illicit activities." Peel Regional Police Specialized Enforcement Bureau (SEB) identified persons of interest in the illegal distribution of illicit drugs in the Greater Toronto Area in November 2021. According to police, a subsequent investigation revealed a complex drug trafficking enterprise that reached international borders. As per ongoing investigations, members of this group used commercial businesses to transport drugs directly from the United States to the Region of Peel and surrounding areas of the Greater Toronto Area.
