Lionel Messi’s sister Maria Sol injured in tragic Miami crash, January wedding postponed
PTC Web Desk: Lionel Messi’s sister Maria Sol Messi has postponed her wedding scheduled for January 3 after sustaining serious injuries in a road accident in Miami, according to media reports.
The 32-year-old was reportedly driving a pick-up truck when she lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a wall, resulting in multiple injuries. Reports suggest that Maria Sol suffered spinal fractures, burn injuries and other physical trauma, forcing her to undergo immediate medical treatment and long-term rehabilitation.
Quoting Argentine television journalist Angel de Brito, Messi’s mother Celia Cuccittini confirmed that Maria Sol is now out of danger. However, she is expected to face a prolonged recovery period due to the severity of her injuries.
Speaking on America TV’s show LAM, de Brito revealed that Maria Sol was set to marry Julian “Tuli” Arellano, who works with Inter Miami’s under-19 coaching staff. The wedding ceremony was planned to take place in Rosario, Argentina, but has now been indefinitely postponed.
“Her injuries include burns, which are particularly difficult to treat, along with vertebral displacement,” de Brito said, adding that she has already begun rehabilitation in Rosario.
The wedding was expected to be a major family event, with Lionel Messi, his wife Antonela Roccuzzo and other close relatives in attendance. Rosario holds special significance for the Messi family, as it is also where the football legend married Antonela.
Like her famous brother, Maria Sol grew up in the same Rosario neighbourhood and has largely stayed away from the public eye. A fashion designer and entrepreneur, she earlier lived in Spain before returning to Argentina to focus on her professional ventures.
