Canadians support him for saving a teen aged girl from assault. For a Burqa clad teen aged Muslim girl, Jake Taylor, a Canadian boy, was perhaps God sent. He not only rescued her from any further humiliation and assault by a middle-aged "racist" but also stunned those who were silently watching the girl being humiliated before her physical assault. The incident has been widely reported in Canadian media. Jake Taylor has been projected as a "hero". When 18-year old Noor Fadel was assaulted on a Vancouver train by a man who said he wanted 'to kill all Muslims," everyone on board just sat and watched. When he grabbed her and tried to pull off her hijab, everyone just sat and watched. When he hit her on her face, and tried to pull her face into his abdomen, everyone just sat and watched. But Jake Taylor refused to keep quiet. He got up, stood between her and her assailant, shoved him, and told him to "get the F-- out of here." He risked his own life to protect a stranger who was completely defenseless. Not all heroes have superpowers or wear capes. "Before I could even get there, he smacked her right in the head, right across the face or whatever, I went over and gave him a shove and told him to 'get the 'F' out of here," Jake Taylor has been quoted as saying. The attacker, later identified as 46-year-old Pierre Belzan, got off at the next stop. He has been charged with assault. and police have recommended a charge of sexual assault as well, say media reports. To thank Taylor for being the only passenger to defend Noor Fadel, a local journalist started the hashtag #ThankYouJake to not only "show him some love" but to prove that " not all heroes have superpowers or wear capes" On social media, the response has been overwhelming. "Thank you so very much for thinking I deserve this," the 21-year-old wrote. "But I think it should just be expected as the decency of a human being. Do the right thing." Stories of sexual assault, hate crime and racial slurring are common in the news these days. It is why Taylor's intervention has made such a huge impact. Transit Police spokeswoman Anne Drennan was quoted in media saying that other passengers may have chosen not to step in out of fear. Luckily, Taylor was brave enough to do so. "If he had not done that, this incident could have been much more serious than it already was," Drennan said.
