New Delhi, February 22: Amid the recently concluded Punjab Assembly elections 2022 and all eyes set on the counting of votes on March 10, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has ordered the blocking of apps, websites and social media accounts of foreign-based ‘Punjab Politics TV’, which has close links with Sikhs for Justice (SFJ). In a statement, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said the channel was “attempting to use online media to disturb public order” in Punjab, where the Assembly elections concluded recently. Centre blocks apps, website of ‘Punjab Politics TV’ linked to Sikhs For JusticeAlso read | Blast at Una's firecracker factory, six women workers dead The ministry used emergency powers under the IT rules to block the digital media resources of ‘Punjab Politics TV’.  As per the ministry's statement, the content of blocked apps, websites and social media accounts of 'Punjab Politics TV' had the potential to incite communal disharmony and separatism. "It was also observed that the launch of new apps and social media accounts was timed to gain traction during the ongoing elections," the ministry said. Therefore, the Centre has ordered blocking on apps, website, and social media accounts of 'Punjab Politics TV’ for having close links with the banned pro-Khalistan outfit Sikhs For Justice. SFJ founder-leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannu has been declared as an “individual terrorist” under the UAPA for promoting secessionism.
