Bihar molestation case: Key accused shot in leg in police encounter, arrested
PTC News Desk: Nandan Yadav, the main accused in the alleged molestation and assault of two minors in Bihar's Jamui, was arrested after a police encounter on Tuesday, officials said.
Yadav was injured during the encounter and taken into custody. Another accused, Hare Ram Yadav, was also arrested during the operation and suffered a leg injury.
The case came to light after a video of the incident, recorded last week, was widely shared on social media. The footage reportedly showed a group of men surrounding and assaulting a teenage girl and a boy.
Police said Yadav was among those identified from the video. He was allegedly seen covering his face while assaulting the Class 10 student.
Three other suspects had already been arrested, taking the total number of arrests to five out of seven accused identified by police. Raids are continuing to locate the remaining suspects.
Teenagers stopped while returning from hills
The incident reportedly took place on the evening of September 19. The two teenagers, who were friends and attended the same coaching centre, were travelling on a scooter when a group of men allegedly stopped them.
According to police, the group forced them off the scooter, abused them and allegedly assaulted them. The teenagers were also reportedly chased when they tried to escape.
A Special Investigation Team, led by Jamui SDPO Deepti Monali, has been formed to investigate the case and arrest the remaining accused.
Police take action after video circulates
Police have also started a separate investigation into people who shared the video online.
The Jamui Cyber Police Station registered an FIR against around 120 social media account holders for allegedly circulating the footage while revealing the identity of the minor victim.
Senior police officials warned that revealing the identity of a minor victim and sharing such material is a serious offence. They appealed to the public not to share or repost the video.
