Union government declares Chandigarh as coronavirus hotspot
The Union government on Wednesday declared Chandigarh to be a coronavirus hotspot, a top official stated. Chandigarh has been named in the list of 170 hotspots in the country, UT Adviser Manoj Parida said on Twitter.
“Union Government has declared Chandigarh as a HOTSPOT district, as per laid down criteria of Health Ministry,” he said in a tweet. The development comes a day after Chandigarh Administration extended curfew till May 3. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday extended the lockdown.
Meanwhile, the Governor of Punjab and Administrator Chandigarh, V P Singh Badnore presided over the Daily War Room meeting. The meeting was attended by Manoj Parida, Adviser, UT, Chandigarh and Sanjay Beniwal, Director General of Police at Raj Bhawan. The Administrator also interacted with Arun Gupta, Principal Secretary (Home), A K Sinha, Finance Secretary, K K Yadav, Commissioner, CMC and Mandip Singh Brar, Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh, Deputy Commissioner’s of Mohali and Panchkula, Director, PGIMER, Director Health Services and Director Principal, GMCH via video conferencing.
