Chandigarh: Several areas in Chandigarh are facing outages as employees of the Electricity Department went on a three-day strike in protest against the privatisation of the department. The residents of Modern Housing Complex, Category IV, Manimajra, are facing an outage since midnight. They said that the electricity went off after midnight and was yet to be restored. Likewise, there has been an outage in the whole of Sector 40 besides Sectors 38-B, 24, 46, 41, 42, 9, and other areas of the city. A resident said that no one responded to calls made on the complaint number. Another resident said that there was no water supply in the morning as there was no electricity in their area since 12.15 am. Chandigarh electricity employees on 3-day strike; several sectors face outage Expressing anguish against the UT Administration, a resident said that the Administration claimed that necessary arrangements would be made for the smooth supply of electricity in Chandigarh, but no such arrangement was made in the city. The employees of the Electricity Department are staging a complete strike against the privatisation of the department. Meanwhile, the UT Administration stated that the Electricity Wing of Engineering Department Chandigarh has made several arrangements to address and register the "No Electricity Supply" complaints and its monitoring mechanism. Taking note of hardships being faced by Chandigarh residents in view of a power outage, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has summoned the Chief Engineer, the Electricity Department. On the other hand, PGIMER stated that "We are coordinating with the UT administration to ensure an uninterrupted supply of electricity to the Institute. The situation is being viewed seriously and SE, Electricity has been deputed at 66 kV substation here. For the critical areas, we have a backup by DG sets. We are microscopically monitoring to ensure that no hospital service is impacted."
