China Open: PV Sindhu loses to Thai shuttler after closely fought match
India's journey in China Open started on a sour note with ace shuttler PV Sindhu losing to Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand, albeit after a closely fought match. Sindhu lost to Chochuwong 21-12, 13-21, 21-19 in a nail-biting 58 minutes. The men fared no better. The doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty crashed out after a straight-game loss to Japanese pair, Takeshi Kamura and Keigo Sonoda. Satwik and Chirag, 15th world rank-holders, couldn't hold their ground against their opponents and lost in the second round by 19-21, 8-21. The match lasted for just 33 minutes at the Olympic Sports Center Xincheng Gynasium.
