Chandigarh: Currently, India is reeling under the worst inflation rates ever. Every Indian household, irrespective of their financial status is facing the brunt of price hikes. May it be fuel, cereals, dals, LPG, CNG, petrol, diesel, rice --rates of every other essential commodity is on fire.

Though the government raises these prices by 10-20 rupees every month, the hiked price when paid accumulatively burns a big hole in the common man’s pocket. According to the government, inflation is the result of global crises like the Ukraine-Russia war, Covid-19, climate change etc. The only thing the ruling government is giving its people is reason and explanations but no actual relief.
The rising price of wheat flour, milk, rice and especially cooking oils has made it hard for the layman to run his kitchen.
For the poor, the scourge of inflation followed job and income losses during the pandemic. The cost of food, housing, transport and healthcare have all risen by 50 per cent since the middle of last year, data suggests.
High fuel prices have pushed up the prices of most commodities and services. Global oil prices have risen above $100 per barrel because of geopolitical tensions that climaxed in Russia’s February 24 invasion of neighboring Ukraine, leading to shortages in many commodities.
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Friday posted a chart comparing the prices of daily commodities like rice, wheat, milk, oil, and vegetables between the Congress era and that of the BJP and said this is one more difference between the UPA era and the NDA. "You feel it daily," the Thiruvananthapuram MP, who has been vocal on social media on the steady rise in fuel prices, said.
According to the chart posted by the Congress leader, between 2014 and 2022, packed Vanaspati saw the steepest hike of 118% while packed palm oil saw a rise of 109% in the price in the last eight years. Rice, wheat, lentil, sugar, milk, tea, salt, potato, onion, tomato saw a hike ranging between 10% to 60%.
