Delhi CM attack case: Centre withdraws CRPF security cover four days after deployment, Delhi police takes over protection
PTC News Desk: The Central government has withdrawn the Z category CRPF security cover proved by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. Her security has been reassigned to Delhi police. The CRPF cover was granted to CM Gupta following an attack on her during a public meeting.
A day after the incident, the Union Home Ministry instructed the CRPF’s VIP security wing to provide Z-category security to the Chief Minister. However, the formal deployment orders were later put on hold, and the decision was reversed, withdrawing CRPF cover.
The Delhi Police has now taken full charge of the CM’s security and has been directed to increase the number of personnel assigned to her protection.
Attack on Delhi CM
On August 20, a man from Gujarat attacked CM Gupta during a 'Jan Sunwai' programme at her camp office in Delhi’s Civil Lines area. Her office termed the assault a “well-planned conspiracy to kill her.”
CM Gupta’s response
Reacting to the attack, CM Gupta said such attempts would never break her resolve and she would continue serving the people of Delhi. She also confirmed that her public meetings will proceed as scheduled.
So far, two people have been arrested in connection with the attack, including the prime accused, Sakriya Rajeshbhai Khimji, a 41-year-old auto-rickshaw driver from Rajkot. The investigation is still underway.
