The investigation suggests that the accused Sakriya Rajeshbhai Khimji, initially considered targeting the Supreme Court.
Khimji later visited the Chief Minister’s residence in Shalimar Bagh, where a ‘Jan Sunwai’ (public hearing) was scheduled for the next day. Investigators said he discarded the knife near Civil Lines after noticing heightened security but still managed to enter the premises unarmed and get close enough to attempt an assault on the Chief Minister.
Khimji told police he attended the Jan Sunwai to raise concerns about stray dogs. According to Rajkot Police, he had traveled from Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, to Delhi on August 19 to join a protest against the Supreme Court’s ruling on stray dogs.
