ED summons former Punjab CM Channi in illegal sand mining case

Chandigarh, April 14: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned formed Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi in the illegal sand mining case. The Congress leader skipped the summon on April 4 after which the new summons has been issued for April 16. The ED had earlier filed a chargesheet against the Channi's nephew Bhupendra Singh Honey in a money laundering case related to sand mining. On April 6, the Sessions Court, Jalandhar, sent Bhupinder Singh Honey to 14-day judicial custody. The next date of hearing has been fixed for April 20. ED to question ex-CM Channi On Wednesday, Bhupinder Singh Honey and his accomplice Kudratdeep Singh filed a bail plea in the special PMLA court in Jalandhar. Honey claimed in his bail plea that the ED fabricated the case. He was arrested during the intervening night of February 3 and 4 by the ED. ED to question ex-CM Channi According to the ED documents, Honey has confessed that Rs 10 crore recovered by the ED during raids belonged to him. The ED official had said that they seized incriminating documents pertaining to illegal sand mining, property transactions, cell phones, gold worth above Rs 21 lakh and a watch worth Rs 12 lakh and cash of Rs 10 crore during the raid.
