Britney Spears discloses abortion during relationship with Justin Timberlake due to his unwillingness to become a father
PTC News Desk: In a much-anticipated memoir titled "The Woman in Me," set to be released on October 24, pop icon Britney Spears opens up about a deeply personal chapter of her life. The book unveils a previously undisclosed aspect of her relationship with fellow pop star Justin Timberlake, with Spears sharing that she had an abortion during their tumultuous romance more than two decades ago. The memoir also delves into the contentious conservatorship that restricted her personal and financial autonomy for 14 years.
Britney Spears, now 41, candidly writes about the abortion in an excerpt published by People magazine on Tuesday, admitting, "If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it." She goes on to reveal that Timberlake was insistent about not wanting to become a father at that time.

The narrative takes readers back to when Spears and Timberlake first crossed paths as child performers on Disney's Mickey Mouse Club. Their romantic involvement began during their late teens, transforming them into one of the entertainment industry's most high-profile couples. Their relationship eventually ended in 2002.
In the memoir, Spears recalls Timberlake's reaction to her pregnancy: "He definitely wasn't happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren't ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young." She reflects, "To this day, it's one of the most agonizing things I have ever experienced in my life."
Justin Timberlake, who is now 42 and married to actor Jessica Biel, has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding these revelations.
Following her separation from Timberlake, Spears went on to have two sons, Sean and Jayden, with her second husband, Kevin Federline. In 2008, following a highly publicized breakdown, Spears found herself under a unique legal guardianship, primarily overseen by her father, Jamie. During a 2021 court appearance, she revealed that the conservatorship prevented her from removing a contraceptive intrauterine device (IUD) despite her desire to get pregnant.
Spears reflects on this difficult period in her life in the memoir, stating, "The conservatorship stripped me of my womanhood, made me into a child." She expresses her discomfort by recalling, "I think back now on my father and his associates having control over my body and my money for that long and it makes me feel sick."
In November 2021, the conservatorship was finally terminated. Spears did become pregnant in 2022 but later disclosed that she had experienced a miscarriage. In August, she and her third husband, Sam Asghari, announced their intention to file for divorce.
