Sharmila Tagore on Saif's split: Not narmonious, she needed time
PTC News Desk: Renowned actor Sharmila Tagore opened up about her son Saif Ali Khan's past marriage with Amrita Singh, unveiling some personal insights during their joint appearance on the recent episode of 'Koffee With Karan.' The unique mother-son duo brought forth candid stories, including Saif's adolescent years and his marriage with Amrita Singh.
Saif reminisced about breaking the news of his marriage to Amrita to his mother the day after the actual ceremony, recalling her dismayed reaction. Sharmila, visiting Mumbai, was taken aback upon learning about the impromptu wedding, tearfully expressing her feelings, saying, "You've really hurt me."
Reflecting on this incident, Sharmila emphasized the importance of open communication with parents. She acknowledged supporting Saif during his separation from Amrita, recognizing the challenge and the aftermath of a long-term relationship and the impact on their children.
Acknowledging the difficult phase after the split, she revealed, "No breakup is easy after being together for so long, especially when there are lovely children involved. It was not harmonious; it was a difficult time." Sharmila empathized with the pain experienced by all parties involved and understood the need for time to heal.

Presently, Saif is married to Kareena Kapoor Khan, sharing two sons, Taimur and Jeh. Amrita resides with their two children, while Sharmila resides at the Pataudi Palace in Delhi. The family has moved forward, though Sharmila emphasized the challenges faced during the trying period, highlighting the emotional toll on everyone involved.

Sharmila Tagore reflected on Saif's and Amrita's separation, acknowledging the complexities of parting ways after a long relationship with children involved. She expressed that such breakups aren't easy, especially when there are cherished children. Sharmila described that phase as challenging, recognizing the hurt everyone felt and the lack of harmony at that time. She mentioned making efforts, but recognized that Amrita needed time to heal.

She emphasized the difficulties faced by the entire family during that period, expressing how challenging it was for Saif, their children, and herself. Sharmila noted how it wasn't just about physical separation; there were emotional connections and bonds that needed adjusting. Losing Amrita and their kids was emotionally taxing, particularly for Ibrahim, who was only three at the time. She highlighted the loss of time spent with them and how they felt doubly deprived.
Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh married in 1991 and divorced after thirteen years in 2004, sharing two children, Ibrahim and Sara Ali Khan. Saif later married Kareena Kapoor in 2012, and they are parents to sons Taimur and Jeh.
