Border 2: From Diljit Dosanjh to ‘Border’, Suniel Shetty shares emotional reflections in exclusive interview

PTC Web Desk: Veteran Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty, in an exclusive interaction with PTC News, opened up about his life, career, patriotism and the deep emotional bond he shares with the iconic war film 'Border'. During the candid conversation, the actor also showered praise on Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh, expressed admiration for the Indian Armed Forces, especially the Punjab Regiment, and spoke movingly about 'Border 2'.

Suniel Shetty, who played a BSF jawan in the 1997 blockbuster 'Border', described the film as one of the most defining chapters of his career. Though he will not appear in 'Border 2' as his character was martyred in the first film, the sequel remains extremely close to his heart.


The film, releasing on January 23,  holds special significance for the Shetty family as Ahan Shetty, Suniel Shetty’s son, will be seen portraying a naval officer in 'Border 2'. The actor said the moment was deeply emotional, recalling that Ahan was just two years old when 'Border' was released.

‘Border’ to ‘Border 2’: A Journey of Emotions

Suniel Shetty said 'Border' was not just another film but a turning point in his cinematic journey. Seeing his son now become a part of the same legacy has made the experience even more special. “This moment is not just emotional for me but for my entire family,” he said, adding that 'Border 2' carries the same spirit of sacrifice, courage, and love for the nation.

‘Border is not just a film’

The actor revealed that he advised Ahan to treat 'Border 2' with utmost respect.

“Border is not an ordinary film. It represents the soil of our country, the sacrifices of our soldiers, and pure patriotism. For me, it’s not just an acting project—it’s an emotion,” he said. In a heartfelt statement, Suniel Shetty added, “Even after my death, people will remember me because of Border.”

‘I am a fan of Diljit Dosanjh’

When asked about Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh, Suniel Shetty did not hold back his admiration. “Diljit is an exceptional artist. I am a fan of his simplicity, hard work  and talent,” he said.

He credited Diljit for taking Punjabi music and cinema to a global platform, saying that artists like him have helped regional culture gain international recognition.

Praise for Punjabis and Punjab Regiment

Suniel Shetty also spoke warmly about the Punjabi community, highlighting their generosity, spirit of service and humanity. He specifically mentioned the tradition of langar and the selfless service Punjabis offer during times of crisis.

Speaking about the Punjab Regiment, he said, “The soldiers of the Punjab Regiment have strong chests and soft hearts. They are always ready to make the ultimate sacrifice for the nation.”

He added that the entire country takes pride in the bravery of these soldiers and will never forget their sacrifices.
