Farmers at Singhu set to beat summer heat and continue protest

Farmers Protest: While there has been no further invitation for talks from the government side, the farmers protesting against the farm laws 2020 have started preparing to face the summer heat at Singhu border. Currently, there are two stages at the Singhu border protest site — one facing toward Delhi where protesting farmers were seen sitting at an open space while the second stage is near Kundli village which is fully covered with tarpaulin. The farmers leaders said that several social organisations have come forward to provide fans and coolers to the farmers. A member of the Krantikari Kisan Union said that planning is underway to replace tarpaulin-made tents. As the summer has started, farmers are planning to install fans and coolers and if needed, air conditioners also, the member said. Several volunteers have started preparing for initiating the changes at the protest sites, he further said. Farmers Protest: Farmers protesting against the farm laws 2020 have started preparing to face the summer heat at Singhu border. Apart from tarpaulin tents, farmers were staying in their tractor-trolleys. All the tractor-trolleys were parked across the road, covered with tarpaulin. Meanwhile, there are tractor-trolleys that are fitted with fans to provide cool air to the farmers. The farmers have been protesting against contentious farm laws 2020 i.e. Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, and Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
