HC stays ex-Punjab DGP Sumedh Saini's arrest till September
Chandigarh, May 25: In a major relief to former Punjab DGP Sumedh Singh Saini, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has put a stay on his arrest in a lodged by the Punjab Vigilance till September.

Notably, Sumedh Singh Saini, former Punjab DGP, had filed an anticipatory bail application in the Punjab and Haryana High Court in a case registered at the PS Flying Squad-I Vigilance Bureau, Mohali.

The case came up for hearing on Wednesday in the court of Justice Avneesh Jhingan. During the hearing, the state counsel sought time to file a reply, therefore the case was adjourned till September.
The Punjab Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau had arrested former Punjab Police chief Sumedh Singh Saini in connection with a September 2020 case pertaining to a fraudulent sale of land in Kurali in Mohali district.
According to information, Saini had been arrested in connection with an FIR registered on September 17, 2020, under Sections 420 (cheating), 467, 468 (forgery), 408 (breach of trust) and 120 (B) ( criminal conspiracy) at the Vigilance Bureau police station in Phase -1, Mohali.
The case, pertaining to the sale of land in Kurali, was registered against Devinder Singh Sandhu, director, WWICS Estate Private Ltd , Naginder Rao, general manager of WWICS, Ashok Kumar Sikka (PCS Officer), for forgery of documents with regard to change of land use by WWICS in connivance with employees of the local bodies department.
