India vs Australia, T20 World Cup 2020 final: Australia defeated Indian eves by 85 runs in the final of ICC T20 World Cup 2020 at Melbourne cricket ground on Sunday. The hosts dominated the Indian side from the first ball of the match. Australia won the toss and elected to bat first. Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney opened the innings for Australia and started hitting from the first ball of the match. Australia scored 184-4 in its innings, while Indian eves were restricted at 99.
Nervous start for India
Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur handed over the ball to all-rounder Deepti Sharma. She gave 14 runs in the first over of the final match including 3 boundaries. Deepti bowled three full toss deliveries consecutively. However, Deepti could have bagged a wicket, if Shafali Verma could have caught the catch of Alyssa Healy at covers. Likewise, India dropped the catch of another opener Beth Mooney. Leg-spinner Rajeshwari dropped the catch in the fourth over.
Australian openers have a blast
Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney powered Australia to a strong total. Mooney and Healy stood for 115-run partnership. Australia scored 184 runs on the loss of four wickets. Healy scored 75 runs off 39 deliveries that included 7 boundaries and 5 sixes. Australian skipper Meg Lanning scored just 16 runs. Meanwhile, Mooney played an unbeaten innings of 78 runs off 54 deliveries that included 10 boundaries.
Schutt rose above the fear
Megan Schutt, who had said that she hates playing against India, recalling her first match against India in the World Cup when Shafali Verma had smashed four boundaries in her first over, dismissed Shafali in the first over.
Scutt, Molineux and Jonassen shine in powerplay
Schutt dismissed the major threat Shafali Verma (2), who was trying to hit the length delivery to the third man but ended up edging it to the hands of Healy. Jonassen dismissed Rodrigues (0) and Harmanpreet Kaur (4) in her starting two overs. Likewise, Sophie Molineux bagged one wicket as he dismissed Smriti Mandhana (11). All of this action took place in the first powerplay.
Indian batting line-up collapsed
Soon after four big fishes – Shafali Verma, Smriti Mandhana, Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur – went back to the pavilion, none of the players, except Deepti Sharma, were able to stand against the bowlers of the Land Down Under. Deepti Sharma scored 33 runs off 35 deliveries. Krishnamurthy and Richa Ghosh scored 19 and 18 runs, respectively. Afterwards, no one was able to score.
