Irrigation scam: HC disposes off PIL with liberty to take up matter with ED
Punjab Irrigation Scam: Punjab and Haryana High Court has on Thursday disposed of the petition seeking CBI enquiry in irrigation scam matter that erupted in year 2017.
The High Court also gave liberty to petitioner that he could file his complaint with the ED. HC directed Punjab government to look into representation given by petitioner and take appropriate action.

As per the PIL, Gurinder Singh Bhapa, the main accused in the multi-crore irrigation scam in Punjab in 2017, paid crores of rupees for contract transactions to two former ministers, their PAs and three IAS officers.

Likewise, a PIL was filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court against the Punjab government for not taking any action against accused till date and sought a CBI probe into the matter.
The High Court, while disposing of the petition, directed the Punjab Government to take action on the petitioner's complaint under the prescribed law.
Baltej Sidhu, counsel for the petitioner, argued that on June 30 last year, he had sent a legal notice to the Chief Secretary to the Punjab Government seeking action in the matter or an inquiry by the CBI.
However, no action was taken on the legal notice and the petitioner filed a petition in the High Court in November last year.
The High Court has stated that it was a matter of public interest. Therefore, a PIL should be filed in this regard. Therefore, the petitioner had now filed a PIL seeking action.
