Punjab Novelist Jaswant Singh Kanwal passes away
Jaswant Singh Kanwal Death: Punjab's Novelist Jaswant Singh Kanwal, 101, passed away on Saturday. Kanwal was born on June 27, 1919. Jaswant Singh was a novelist, short story writer and essayist of the Punjabi language.
Kanwal was born in the village of Dhudike, Moga District, Punjab. He left the school while he was a teenager and went to Malaya, where he got interested in literature. After few years, Kanwal returned to Dhudike and lived there ever since. In 2007, he was awarded the Punjabi Sahit Shiromani Award.

Jaswant Singh Kanwal was awarded Sahitya Akademi Fellowship for his 1996 book Pakhi. He also received the Sahitya Academy award for Taushali Di Hanso in 1998. In 2008, he was conferred upon the degree of Doctor of Literature (Honoris Causa) by Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, for his contribution to Punjabi literature.
