J&K: CRPF’s women commandos prepared to take on stone pelters
To tackle women stone pelters, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has formed team of lady commandos, here on Saturday. These commandos have been given rigorous training including being blindfolded to deal with night deployment and repairing weapons within a minute in case of malfunctions, the officials said. The decision to raise all-women battalion comes after it was observed that girl students were throwing stones at security forces in Srinagar. On May 2, a bus carrying school students was attacked by stone-pelters in Zawoora village of Shopian district. Also, seven tourists were injured when stone-throwers targeted vehicles in south Kashmir's Anantnag district on April 30, officials said. Last year, a report by Indian Intelligence Bureau (IB) stated that the Pakistan's intelligence agency, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) supplied Rs 800 crore to Kashmiri separatist leaders including Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Asiya Andrabi to fuel unrest in the Valley. According to the report, the funds supplied by the ISI were used to pay off stone-pelters and petrol bomb throwers. -PTC News
