High drama was witnessed at Punjabi University in Patiala on Wednesday when a group of unemployed ETT teachers and guest faculty of government colleges reached the venue, where Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi had come to address teachers and students. The protesters raised slogans against the Punjab Government. The police also used mild force to disperse the protesting unemployed ETT/TET-passed teachers and guest faculty. They were selected for 2,364 post sanctioned by the Punjab Government in December last year, but they had been waiting for their joining letters since. Notably, Charanjit Singh Channi had come to Punjabi University in Patiala on Wednesday to address teachers and students. The university had decided to shut classes for the day. It was Charanjit Singh Channi's first visit to the university after he became the Chief Minister of Punjab. Meanwhile, in a major relief to cash-strapped Punjabi University, Patiala, Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has announced that the Punjab Government would take over the university's Rs 150 crore bank overdraft. He also launched two centres - ‘Centre for Restoration of Ecosystem in Punjab' and the 'Centre for Rural Entrepreneurship and Skill Training’. CM Channi said Punjabi University had played an important role in the uplift of Punjabi language and people. "It is important that we teach Punjabi to our children,” he added.
