Global Education Summit 2023 kicks off at Chandigarh University; academic leaders from 30 nations attending event

Mohali, October 9: Chandigarh University (CU) has commenced its three-day Global Education Summit (GES-2023) with a focus on fostering international collaboration in higher education and promoting inclusiveness.

The  Global Education Summit, which began on October 9, aims to explore avenues for achieving sustainable development goals and is centered around the theme of 'Creating Professional Leaders for One Earth, One Family, One Future.'


More than 40 universities from 30 countries, including the UK, USA, Australia, Canada, and many others, are participating in the summit. While 20 academic leaders are physically attending, 27 others are joining virtually. The event saw prominent figures in attendance, such as (Dr) Md Sabur Khan, founder and chairman of Daffodil International University; Prof Abhay Purohit, president of the Council of Architecture; Prof (Dr) Sibrandes Poppema, president of Sunway University, Malaysia; and Anju Ranjan, Deputy Director General of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).



During the summit's first day, discussions were held on topics such as 'Global Collaborations in Higher Education' for achieving 'Sustainable Development Goals', chaired by Prof (Dr) Sibrandes Poppema, Dr Md Sabur Khan, and Dr Kai Peters. In addition to the summit, several universities formalised partnerships for collaborative research initiatives, student exchange programmes, and joint academic projects, paving the way for future global collaborations in education and research.

Chancellor, Chandigarh University, Satnam Singh Sandhu emphasised the importance of the summit's theme, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'One Earth, One Family, One Future.' He stressed the need to develop values that contribute to universal progress and highlighted the role of education in achieving socio-economic goals worldwide.



Dr Md Sabur Khan from Bangladesh emphasised the importance of bringing innovative minds together to build a stronger future. Prof (Dr) Sibrandes Poppema praised the summit as an excellent platform to discuss creating professional leaders and the importance of values and mindset in education.

Anju Ranjan, Deputy Director General of ICCR, emphasised the need for synchronisation of education systems worldwide, underlining the importance of online learning in the future. She commended India's New Education Policy for its flexibility and focus on employability.

Prof Abhay Purohit, president of the Council of Architecture, called for unity and the adoption of disruptive technology in education to progress and develop a more educated and developed world.

The Global Education Summit seeks to unite academic leaders from around the world to explore innovative approaches to education, research, and sustainable development, contributing to the global goal of 'One Earth, One Family, One Future.'
