PTC Web Desk: The British Deputy High Commission, Chandigarh, hosted an interactive session at Panjab University’s School of Communication Studies, bringing students and faculty face-to-face with representatives from the UK mission.

The delegation was led by Amandeep Grewal, UK’s Deputy Head of Mission in Chandigarh, along with Rajinder S Nagarkoti, political, Press & projects adviser and Chevening Officer for the region.

The discussion highlighted three key areas of UK–India cooperation: the Chevening Scholarships programme, progress on the UK–India Free Trade Agreement (FTA), and the ongoing ‘Visa Fraud Ton Bacho’ campaign.

Faculty members, including Dr Bhavneet Bhatti, Chairperson of the department, and Professor Archana R. Singh, actively participated in the session. The visit also included a special radio interaction with Amandeep Grewal and Rajinder Nagarkoti.

Speaking on Chevening Scholarships, Grewal said the programme offers fully funded one-year master’s degrees at over 150 UK universities, with no upper age limit. Applications remain open until October 7.

On the trade front, he described the UK–India FTA as “India’s best-ever deal and the UK’s most significant bilateral trade agreement since Brexit,” underlining its potential to benefit key sectors across both nations.

Addressing visa fraud, Nagarkoti highlighted the ‘Visa Fraud Ton Bacho’ initiative launched earlier this year. The campaign has reached rural Punjab, working with village elders and women to raise awareness. A WhatsApp chatbot ( 91-7065251380) in English and Punjabi has also been introduced to guide people with authentic information.

He said, “Our mission is to protect people from fraudulent practices, raise awareness, and promote safe and legal routes to the UK.”
