Ludhiana: In another major development in the illegal sand mining case, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday arrested businessman Kudratdeep Singh, an associate of former Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi's nephew Bhupinder Singh Honey. Also Read | Hajj pilgrimage: First flight departs with 377 pilgrims from Kochi According to highly placed sources in ED, a Jalandhar court had issued non-bailable warrants against Kudratdeep after he failed to appear before the court on earlier occasions in regards to prosecution complaint filed by ED against him" Kudrat was arrested by the ED near Amritsar today after which he was produced in the court that sent him to 14-day judicial custody. He was named in the Punjab police FIR of 2018 on the basis of which ED launched a probe in this case. On November 30, 2021, the ED had registered an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) and during the probe, it had raided properties belonging to Honey, Kudratdeep and others and seized a cache of property documents, Rs 10 crore in cash and other valuables. During the course of the investigation, Honey was arrested by the ED and even Charanjit Singh Channi was quizzed in April for several hours.
