Lausanne 2020: IOC saddened by accident at opening ceremony rehearsal

The Organising Committee of the 2020 Winter Youth Olympics and The International Olympic Committee (IOC) have expressed their sadness over an accident suffered by a performing artist during the Opening Ceremony rehearsal for the Youth Olympic Games Lausanne 2020 that took place yesterday (7 January). The performing artist met with the accident at the Vaudoise Arena, after which she was evacuated to the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois (CHUV) where she is now undergoing treatment. Lausanne 2020 will start tomorrow The number of participants has grown by nearly 40 per cent from the last edition of the games. This time 1872 athletes will compete in the Games. Twelve new NOCs have joined the Winter Youth Olympics this time. They are Albania, Azerbaijan, Ecuador, Haiti, Hong Kong (China), Kosovo, Pakistan, Qatar, Singapore, Thailand, Turkmenistan, Trinidad & Tobago Switzerland (112), Russian Federation (107), United States of America (96), Germany (96), Canada (81), Czech Republic (77), Japan (74), Italy (69), Austria (64), and France (61) are the 10 largest delegations. Five new events are being introduced and they are Women’s Nordic Combined (Individual Normal Hill/4km), Women’s Doubles Luge, Ice Hockey Mixed NOC 3x3 Tournament, Freeski Big Air, Snowboard Big Air. Besides a new sport, Ski Mountaineering (host site: Villars) with five events: Women’s and Men’s Individual, Women’s and Men’s Sprint and Mixed NOC Relay has been introduced. -PTC News
