Union Cabinet hikes MSP of Rabi crops for 2018-19 Just after a day of the standoff between the agitated farmers and police at the Uttar-Pradesh-Delhi border, the Union Cabinet approved the hike of in minimum support prices (MSPs) for six Rabi crops inclusive wheat. The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, increased the MSP of wheat by Rs 105 per quintal to Rs 1,840 per quintal. According to the MSP policy, the government fixes the rates for 23 notified crops grown in kharif and rabi seasons. Apart from wheat, the MSP of safflower is also increased by Rs 845 per quintal. MSP for Barely has been increased by Rs 30 per quintal, MSP of Masur by Rs 225 per quintal. Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, "By increasing the MSP today the farmers of India will have an additional income to the tune of Rs 62,635 Crores." On Tuesday, the whole nation witnessed violent clashed between farmers and the Delhi Police when cops stopped them from entering the national capital with tractors.
