20 PAC, CRPF personnel get 10-year jail for supplying arms & ammunition to Maoists, terrorists
PTC News Desk: A special court in Uttar Pradesh on Friday sentenced 24 people to ten years in prison, including 20 state police, Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, in connection with a 2010 case involving the supply of arms and ammunition to Maoists and terrorists.
The court of special judge (Essential Commodities Act) Vijay Kumar also imposed a fine of 10,000 penalty on the accused who were found guilty on Thursday, according to Rampur additional district government counsel (criminal) Pratap Singh Maurya.
“Twenty-four people were convicted and sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment by the court in the 2010 case. The accused were also fined ₹10,000 each,” the additional district government counsel said.
On April 10, 2010, a special task force (STF) of the state police arrested two CRPF constables with many cartridges in their possession, revealing the supply of arms and ammunition to Maoists and terrorists.
According to Maurya, the STF was acting on information that weaponry and ammunition were being provided to Maoists and terrorists across the state, Bihar, and Jharkhand from a CRPF reserve in Rampur and other PAC units across the state through a person in Prayagraj. He stated that the tip came just days after 76 CRPF soldiers were slain in a Maoist ambush in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada on April 6, that year.
