Terror attack in J&K's Ganderbal kills Doctor, 6 workers; security heightened
PTC News Desk: In a devastating news, a doctor and six construction workers were killed when terrorists opened fire at construction site in Jammu and Kashmir's Ganderbal district. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah called the attack on non-local labourers "dastardly and cowardly".
"Praying that the injured make a full recovery as the more seriously injured are being referred to SKIMS, Srinagar," Mr Abdullah posted on X.
According to the officials, the unidentified terrorists opened fired on camp housing the labourers and other staff working on the tunnel project. The group of labourers included both locals and non locals. While two died on the spot, four others and the doctor succumbed to their injuries subsequently. The police and army have cordoned off the area to track the attackers.
On the other hand, following the attack a joint team neutralized one heavily armed terrorist and recovered arms and ammunition and other war-like stores from the encounter site in Baramulla district. "The joint team neutralized one heavily armed terrorist and recovered 01xAK Rifle, 02xAK Magazines, 57xAK Rounds, 02xPistols, 03xPistol Magazines and other war-like stores from the site, "said Chinar Corps in a statement.
"Based on intelligence inputs regarding likely infiltration bid, a Joint anti-infiltration Operation was launched by #Indian Army & Jammu Kashmir Police along LOC in general area Uri, Baramulla. Alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged, which resulted in terrorists opening indiscriminate fire. Vigilant troops responded with effective fire. Operation is in progress," the Chinar Corps said.
