Curious case of Neha Bora: AISA chief's lookalike keeps cops busy with chasing wrong woman during CJP protest
PTC News Desk: A scarf, black-rimmed glasses and a mask reportedly led Delhi Police to mistake a woman for All India Students’ Association (AISA) president Neha Bora during protests in the capital on Sunday. However, the woman detained at RK Ashram was reportedly Bora’s lookalike, while the actual student leader was elsewhere.
The incident occurred as protesters continued demonstrations demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The real Neha, meanwhile, was protesting alongside fellow AISA supporters in Connaught Place, leaving the police caught up in a case of mistaken identity.
The drama began hours earlier when Bora teased her followers with a cryptic message: “Do I have your attention? Watch closely. Stay ready. Time & Venue incoming.”
Just hours later, she posted a video message announcing a gathering at RK Ashram at 2.30 pm, urging supporters to continue their movement to oust Kumar.
“See you there, don’t be late,” she said.

According to reports, police personnel spotted Bora’s lookalike at RK Ashram and took her into custody, believing she was the student leader. Meanwhile, the real Bora was seen in Connaught Place as police chased protesters. She was eventually detained at Vijay Chowk.
Bora later shared a photograph of herself with her lookalike on social media, captioning it, “The tale of the two Nehas. Not strategy, just coincidence.”
The apparent case of mistaken identity quickly became a talking point online, with her supporters questioning the extensive security arrangements and surveillance deployed across Delhi.
One social media user wrote that despite thousands of police personnel and extensive surveillance, the police had been misled by Bora’s lookalike. Another user described the confusion as an example of the intensity surrounding the protests.
Over 200 protestors detained
On Sunday, more than 200 protesters were detained as they raised slogans and attempted to march towards Jantar Mantar. Several were seen being taken into police buses.
Members of student organisations, including AISA, the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and Krantikari Yuva Sangathan (KYS), along with supporters of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), were detained at several locations, particularly Connaught Place and RK Ashram Marg.
The detentions continued beyond 6.30 pm. Social media footage also showed several journalists being detained despite displaying their press identification cards.
Visuals from Connaught Place’s Inner Circle showed demonstrators marching and demanding Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation while shouting slogans such as, “Gyanesh Kumar, resign.”
Police personnel were seen moving in to disperse the protesters, holding them by their arms and taking them towards waiting buses. Some demonstrators were dragged along the road while continuing to raise slogans. The detentions took place amid extensive security arrangements, with more than 30,000 police and paramilitary personnel reportedly deployed across Delhi to prevent protesters from reaching Jantar Mantar.
