New Delhi, February 2: In a disconcerting turn of events, Shreyas Reddy Beniger, an Indian student pursuing studies at the Linder School of Business in Ohio, US, was found dead on Thursday. This marks the fourth such incident involving Indian students in the US this year, raising concerns and prompting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Shreyas Beniger's untimely demise.

The Indian Mission in New York has expressed deep sorrow over the incident and swiftly initiated a probe to ascertain the cause of Shreyas Reddy Beniger's death. In an official statement on X (formerly Twitter), the Indian Consulate in New York stated, "Deeply saddened by the unfortunate demise of Mr. Shreyas Reddy Benigeri, a student of Indian origin in Ohio. Police investigation is underway. At this stage, foul play is not suspected. The Consulate continues to remain in touch with the family and is extending all possible assistance to them."

The sequence of tragic events began earlier this week with the discovery of Neel Acharya, a student at Purdue University, who was found dead after being reported missing. The circumstances surrounding Acharya's disappearance and subsequent demise are under investigation.

Vivek Saini, a resident of Haryana pursuing an MBA in Georgia, met a similarly tragic fate after being attacked by a homeless man. The altercation reportedly stemmed from a disagreement over free food. This incident underscores the vulnerabilities faced by international students, even within reputed educational institutions.

In a separate case, Akul Dhawan was found dead outside the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in January. His autopsy suggested hypothermia as the cause of death, leading his parents to file a complaint against the university's police department, alleging negligence and inaction.

These successive incidents have prompted calls for heightened awareness and vigilance within the international student community. The authorities are being urged to conduct thorough investigations to determine the root causes behind these tragedies and address any potential lapses in student safety.
