Arvind Kejriwal bail plea | SC defers hearing on Delhi CM's plea against stay on bail, says 'let High Court pass order'
Arvind Kejriwal bail plea: The Supreme Court on Monday denied Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal immediate relief in his effort to overturn the High Court's interim stay on a bail order issued by a lower court last week.
The court responded to Kejriwal's claims that the High Court erred in staying bail without fully reading the lower court's order and rationale by stating that it would wait until the said order was on record and the High Court had a chance to re-examine the stay before ruling on his petition.
The court has scheduled Wednesday as the next hearing date. The High Court is expected to deliver its full verdict on Tuesday.
"It is not proper to interfere when the High Court has reserved its judgement. We will keep this petition for hearing for the day after tomorrow," the Supreme Court said.
The High Court had previously stayed Kejriwal's bail following a last-ditch challenge from the Enforcement Directorate, which claimed the release order was "perverse" and filed hours before he was to leave jail.
The High Court immediately suspended Kejriwal's release pending further arguments.
On Sunday, Kejriwal filed a Supreme Court petition challenging the stay.
