PTC Web Desk: In a significant political move, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has nominated Bansuri Swaraj, daughter of the late Sushma Swaraj, for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Bansuri Swaraj, an accomplished advocate with over 15 years of legal experience, is set to make her political debut from New Delhi Lok Sabha constituency.

Introduction to Bansuri Swaraj

Bansuri Swaraj has an impressive educational background, having earned her undergraduate degree in English Literature from the University of Warwick. She further pursued her legal studies at the renowned BPP Law School in London and holds a Masters of Studies degree from the University of Oxford's St. Catherine's College.


Enrolled with the Bar Council since 2007, Bansuri Swaraj has a rich professional career in the legal arena. She has represented high-profile clients in contentious litigation across various judicial fora, dealing with disputes involving contracts, real estate, tax, international commercial arbitrations, and criminal trials.

Political Debut and Advocacy

Bansuri Swaraj entered the political arena following the untimely demise of her mother, Sushma Swaraj. Last year, she gained prominence for her outspoken criticism of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over the National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023.

Addressing the media, Bansuri Swaraj referred to the Delhi AAP government as "useless" (Nikammi) and "quarrelsome" (Jhagdalu). She expressed gratitude for the passing of the NCT Delhi (Amendment) Bill 2023, which grants more powers to the Centre and Governor, emphasising that Delhi's administration would now operate in accordance with the law.

BJP Candidacy and Gratitude

Bansuri Swaraj's entry into electoral politics comes as the BJP announced its first list of candidates for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The New Delhi Lok Sabha constituency will witness her political debut as she expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national chief JP Nadda, and every BJP worker for providing her with this opportunity.

With the BJP's slogan of 'ab ki baar 400 paar' (This time, crossing 400 seats), Bansuri Swaraj asserted that every BJP worker is dedicated to making Narendra Modi the 'PradhanSewak' for the third consecutive time.

Educational Background and Legal Expertise

Bansuri's academic journey includes a Bachelor's degree in English Literature from the University of Warwick and legal studies at BPP Law School in London. She qualified as a Barrister at Law and holds a Masters of Studies degree from the University of Oxford.

Her legal career is marked by diverse experiences, handling disputes related to contracts, real estate, tax, international commercial arbitrations, and criminal trials. Additionally, she served as the Additional Advocate General for the State of Haryana, balancing her public responsibilities with her private legal practice.

Role in BJP and Legal Cell Convenor

Last year, she was appointed as the co-convenor of the BJP Delhi's legal cell, showcasing her commitment to legal and political affairs. Her role within the BJP emphasises the party's acknowledgment of her skills and dedication to public service.
