Bengaluru: 12-year old boy, elderly man electrocuted in flooded apartment

PTC News Desk: In a tragic turn of events, an elderly man and a 12 year old boy died of electric shock inside a flooded apartment complex in Bengaluru while trying to clear waterlogging in their apartment complex.

Manmohan Kamath, 63, was using an external motor to drain water from the cellar when he got electrocuted due to a short circuit. Dinesh (12), who was standing inside the flooded basement, was also electrocuted.

The city recorded approximately 104 mm of rainfall over the past 24 hours, resulting in flooding across numerous low-lying areas and causing major traffic congestion. The bleak situation was all too familiar, as the IT hub faces similar issues annually during the rainy season.

Images revealed extensive waterlogging in multiple parts of the city, highlighting the inadequacy of its infrastructure in handling heavy downpours. In a separate rain-related tragedy, a 35-year-old woman lost her life when a wall collapsed.

Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara on Monday asserted that the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), which has been replaced by the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), was making efforts to tackle the severe waterlogging affecting several areas of the city, which saw heavy rainfall.
