Bihar shocker: 4 arrested after video shows another teen girl harassed in broad daylight in Samastipur | Watch
PTC Web Desk: Four persons have been arrested in Bihar's Samastipur after a video showing a teenage girl being harassed by a group of men in broad daylight surfaced on social media.
The incident has triggered fresh concern over the safety of women and girls in the state, coming only days after a separate assault involving two teenagers in Jamui sparked widespread outrage.
The Samastipur video emerged on Wednesday evening. It allegedly shows several men surrounding a teenage girl and a young man. Some of the accused are seen holding the girl by her arms as she tries to get away. The men also allegedly make inappropriate comments and gestures towards her.
Samastipur SP Arvind Pratap Singh said four persons have been arrested in connection with the case. The police are also looking for two other suspects, identified as Devansh Sharma and Rahul Kumar.
According to people familiar with the incident, the episode took place near the Jagat Singh Bandh Bypass road in the Karpuri Gram police station area. The teenage girl and her male friend were reportedly taking photographs when the group approached them.
RJD attacks Bihar government
The incident has also led to a political reaction. RJD MP Manoj Jha criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the law and order situation in Bihar.
Jha questioned the Prime Minister over the incidents and accused the Centre of focusing on election narratives instead of addressing concerns over law and order in the state.
The political reaction came as the Samastipur case emerged just days after another incident in Jamui involving two teenagers.
Earlier Jamui incident triggered outrage
In the Jamui case, five persons were arrested after a video allegedly showing a Class 10 girl being sexually assaulted and her male friend being attacked went viral.
The police said the incident took place on the evening of September 19, when the two teenagers were returning from Mawara Hill on a two-wheeler. The location is around 150 km from Patna.
According to the police, a group of men stopped the teenagers and questioned them under the guise of moral policing. The situation reportedly escalated, with some of the men allegedly abusing and assaulting the boy while others harassed the girl.
One of the videos that surfaced online appeared to show a man with his face covered forcibly grabbing and dragging the girl.
The police also suspect that one of the accused recorded the incident on a mobile phone and that the footage later circulated on social media.

Jamui Superintendent of Police Biswajeet Dayal said the police took suo motu cognisance of the incident as the teenagers had not initially approached the police with a complaint.
The suspects were subsequently traced with the help of the vehicle registration number visible in the video.
The two cases, occurring within days of each other, have renewed questions over public safety and law enforcement in Bihar.
