BJP files complaint with Election Commission over Rahul Gandhi's ‘panauti’ remark aimed at PM Modi

New Delhi, November 22: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took action against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's recent derogatory remarks, lodging a complaint with the Election Commission concerning his ‘panauti’ and ‘pickpocket’ jibes aimed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Rahul Gandhi's comments, made during a rally in Rajasthan, targeted PM Modi, asserting that he functioned as a ‘panauti’ leading to the cricket team's defeat and accusing him of diversion tactics during crucial national issues. Furthering his analogy, Gandhi likened Modi to a pickpocket orchestrating distractions while others like Adani stealthily benefit.

In response, the BJP condemned Gandhi's comments, considering them derogatory and reflective of a decline in political discourse. The party asserted that likening the Prime Minister to a pickpocket amounted to character assassination and intended to tarnish his image, calling it an unacceptable personal attack.

The BJP's complaint to the Election Commission emphasized the need to uphold dignified political discourse, citing Gandhi's remarks as a departure from respectful communication expected from senior leaders. The party sought corrective measures, underscoring the gravity of such comments that could mislead the public and undermine the reputation of the Prime Minister.
