BJP MP alleges Mahua Moitra accepted bribes for Parliamentary questions

New Delhi, October 15: A significant political controversy unfolded as BJP Member of Parliament (MP) Nishikant Dubey accused Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra of accepting bribes to ask questions in Parliament. Dubey demanded the immediate suspension of Mahua Moitra, alleging that she had accepted financial incentives from businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for posing questions in Parliament. In a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Dubey accused Moitra of violating parliamentary privileges.

In response to these allegations, Mahua Moitra welcomed an inquiry, suggesting that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) could conduct an investigation right after finishing its inquiry into the Adani Group's offshore financial transactions, over-invoicing practices, and benami accounts.

Nishikant Dubey's request for an inquiry also included a report by an advocate, revealing that 50 out of Mahua Moitra's recent 61 questions were aimed at protecting or promoting the business interests of Darshan Hiranandani and his company. These questions often focused on the Adani Group, with which the Hiranandani Group was competing for business.

Dubey's letter further accused Mahua Moitra of leading the All India Trinamool Congress's "shouting brigade" during Parliament sessions and disrupting proceedings with continual abuses. The letter suggested that Mahua Moitra's behavior had violated the constitutional rights of other members of Parliament.

Mahua Moitra, in response to these allegations, criticized the Adani Group and said that efforts to silence her were futile. She questioned the timing of the allegations and welcomed an investigation into her alleged money laundering, but suggested that the CBI should first complete its inquiry into the Adani Group's offshore financial dealings, over-invoicing, and benami accounts.

The letter from Nishikant Dubey came on the same day a photo of Mahua Moitra toasting with Shashi Tharoor went viral. In response, Mahua Moitra emphasized that Bengal's women have personal lives.

Darshan Hiranandani, the businessman at the center of the allegations, is the son of Niranjan Hiranandani, a co-founder of the Hiranandani Group engaged in the real estate business.
