BJP questions TMC's silence: Does 'no comment' signify acceptance of Mahua Moitra's actions?

New Delhi, October 22: Shehzad Poonawalla, a prominent BJP leader, has raised concerns over the Trinamool Congress's lack of response to allegations against Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra. Moitra is facing accusations of involvement in a "cash-for-questions" scandal. Poonawalla emphasized that the Trinamool cannot simply evade the issue by stating "no comments" without offering clarity on whether their silence signifies acceptance of Mahua Moitra's alleged misconduct. He also questioned why the Trinamool has not taken any disciplinary action against Moitra, suggesting that the party might be hesitant due to its own involvement in the matter. Poonawalla remarked, "Perhaps people in the party knew or endorsed it? TMC must clarify."

Poonawalla went further, inquiring whether the Trinamool's silence indicates that the party acknowledges that Mahua Moitra committed serious infractions, including granting access to her parliamentary login for operation by a rival corporate entity from abroad in exchange for kickbacks.

The controversy revolves around the allegations made by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, who claimed that Mahua Moitra allowed industrialist Darshan Hiranandani to use her parliamentary login to pose questions against the Adani Group. While several Trinamool leaders have engaged in debates on this matter in various media outlets, the party has refrained from issuing an official statement. Kunal Ghosh, the party's state general secretary, maintained a stance of non-involvement, stating, "No comments on this particular issue. We have nothing to say on it. The Trinamool Congress will not say a single word. We have nothing to say and no comments. The related person may explain or answer the issues but not Trinamool Congress."

Trinamool Congress is closely monitoring the situation and BJP's allegations, but as of now, the party has refrained from offering any official comments or statements.

Adding an unexpected twist to the controversy, Darshan Hiranandani submitted an affidavit admitting to using Mahua Moitra's parliamentary login to raise questions against the Adani Group. However, Moitra vehemently denied these claims and asserted that Hiranandani was coerced into making such statements.
