Delhi BMW crash: Wife bids emotional farewell to Finance Ministry officer from hospital bed after fatal accident
Delhi BMW crash: What began as a serene Sunday outing for Navjot Singh and his wife, Sandeep Kaur, turned into a life-shattering tragedy. The couple had started their day with prayers at Bangla Sahib gurdwara, followed by a quiet lunch of dosa at Karnataka Bhavan in RK Puram. But on their way back home to Pratap Nagar, fate dealt them a cruel blow.
Navjot Singh, 52, a deputy secretary with the Union Finance Ministry, lost his life after a speeding BMW X5 rear-ended the couple’s bike near Delhi Cantonment metro station. His wife, Sandeep, a teacher, suffered multiple fractures in the collision.

Two days later, grief engulfed the family as Sandeep, still in pain and on a stretcher, reached out to her husband for one last time inside the hospital. In a heart-wrenching moment, her trembling hand touched Navjot’s lifeless face as relatives struggled to hold back tears. The two stretchers lay side by side — one carrying a man who had served the nation, and the other his devastated wife, forced to say goodbye in the most painful way imaginable.
According to the police, the BMW was being driven by Gaganpreet, accompanied by her husband Parikshit. After the crash, she drove the couple nearly 19 km away to a private hospital in GTB Nagar, where doctors declared Navjot dead on arrival. Sandeep was later shifted to another hospital for treatment.
What has raised questions is why the injured couple were not taken to the nearest medical facility. Police sources revealed that the GTB Nagar hospital is co-owned by Gaganpreet’s father, fueling suspicions of a cover-up. Navjot’s family has also alleged negligence, claiming that Sandeep repeatedly begged the driver to take them to a nearby hospital, but her pleas were ignored.
In her police complaint, Sandeep stated: “I kept requesting her to take us to a nearby hospital. My husband was unconscious and required urgent medical attention. But despite my repeated requests, she took us to a small hospital far away.”
Gaganpreet has since been arrested and is in judicial custody, facing charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, rash driving, and concealing evidence.
