Boy found hanging at BJP MP's Silchar residence; probe begins
Assam, August 27: The body of a 10-year-old boy was found hanging at the home of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Rajdeep Roy in Assam's Silchar on Saturday evening, according to authorities.
The body was recovered by police and taken to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) for a post-mortem examination. According to his family, the boy, who has been identified as Rajdeep Roy (a namesake of the BJP MP), was a Class-5 student who had been staying at the MP's house with his mother and elder sister for a few years.
"They are from the Cachar district's Palong Ghat area, and his mother works as a housekeeper at MP Rajdeep Roy's house. The woman brought her two children to Silchar a few years ago for better education," a family member informed the media on Saturday evening.
After receiving the information, the BJP MP raced to his house and later told the media that the door (to the room where the body was discovered) was closed from the inside and that when police broke through the door, the boy was found unconscious.
"He was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors tried to save his life but it was too late. Doctors declared him dead," Roy told the media.
Police stated the prima facie points to suicide, and his family members told officers that he was upset with his mother for not getting him a phone to play video games.
"His mother went grocery shopping with my daughter, and before that, the boy asked her for her phone, which she refused. She was out for around 40 minutes. When she returned, she found that the door of the room was closed from inside,” added Roy.
"Though initial investigations are suggesting that it could be a case of suicide, I am not sure about it. I have talked to the top cops in the district and asked them to investigate the matter thoroughly," the MP added.
