Businessman-BJP leader shot dead by assailants, six years after son was killed in similar pattern
PTC News Desk: Prominent businessman Gopal Khemka was shot dead by unidentified bike-borne assailants in Bihar's Patna on Friday night. He was killed nearly six years after his son was murdered in a similar manner.
Kehmka was shot near an apartment close to his residence in the posh Gandhi Maidan area on Friday night. Six years ago his son Gunjan Khemka was also killed in similar way.
"On the night of 4 July, around 11 PM, we received information from the Gandhi Maidan South area that businessman Gopal Khemka was shot dead. As soon as the information was received, the police reached the hospital and the crime scene. The area has been cordoned off, and an investigation is underway. CCTV footage is being examined. Further action will be taken," City SP Central, Diksha, said.
While alleging police apathy, Khemka's brother, Shankar, said that officers arrived at the crime scene nearly three hours after the shooting. According to him, his brother - who was also a director of the Bankipore Club - was driving back home. As he stepped out of his car at 11:40 pm, the assailants opened fire on him. Shankar further claimed that it was not until 2:30 am that the police reached the scene.
The incident has also sparked a political debate with MP Pappu Yadav questioning the Nitish Kumar Government's good governance claims.
RJD leader Rishi Mishra slammed the NDA government and said, ""We need to understand that the (Nitish) government has lost its credibility. The honourable CM is in an unconscious state. The police should have been involved in basic intelligence. However, they are working to nab liquor smugglers so that they can earn something. The people have lost trust on the government."
