CBI files corruption case against Aryan Khan's case officer Sameer Wankhede

Mumbai, May 12: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a corruption case against Sameer Wankhede, the anti-narcotics officer who arrested Aryan Khan, son of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, in an alleged drugs-on-cruise case two years ago. The CBI filed the case on Friday and is conducting searches at Wankhede's premises.

At the time of the incident, Wankhede was the Mumbai zonal chief of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and led the team that raided the cruise ship off the coast of Mumbai in 2021. Aryan Khan was among the people arrested and spent four weeks in jail before being cleared of all charges in May 2022 due to "lack of sufficient evidence."

The case against Wankhede has been registered under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The CBI is reportedly investigating allegations that Wankhede demanded bribes to release people arrested in drug cases and that he owned undeclared assets.

The NCB has faced criticism in the past for its handling of drug cases and has been accused of targeting specific individuals in the film industry. The arrest of Aryan Khan, the son of a high-profile celebrity, had also sparked controversy and divided public opinion.

Wankhede, who is known for his high-profile drug busts and has received several awards for his work, has denied all allegations against him and has maintained that he is being targeted for doing his job honestly.

The CBI's investigation into the corruption case against Wankhede is ongoing, and further details are awaited.
