CBI begins probe into alleged film certification bribery in India; three persons on target

PTC News Desk: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a case against three private individuals and several unidentified others, including public servants from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in Mumbai, based on a complaint. The complaint alleged that in September 2023, a private individual conspired with others to obtain a bribe of Rs 7,00,000/- in exchange for securing the necessary censor certificate from CBFC, Mumbai for a Hindi-dubbed movie.


According to the allegations, as part of this conspiracy, she initially demanded a bribe of Rs 7,00,000/- on behalf of CBFC Mumbai officials from the complainant. After negotiations, she allegedly accepted Rs 6,54,000/- as a bribe on behalf of CBFC Mumbai officials, depositing this amount into the bank accounts of two other accused individuals. Subsequently, on September 26, CBFC, Mumbai, allegedly issued the required certificate for the Hindi-dubbed movie.

Furthermore, it was claimed that, apart from the mentioned sum, the accused received Rs 20,000/- as coordinating fees for herself, deposited into her bank account from a private company. Out of the total bribe amount of Rs 6,54,000/-, an alleged Rs 6,50,000/- was immediately withdrawn in cash.

Searches were carried out at four different locations, including in Mumbai, at the residences of the accused and other individuals connected to the accused. These searches resulted in the discovery of incriminating documents.

The investigation into this matter is ongoing.
