CBI reaches Manipur to probe killing of two teens: CM N Biren Singh
PTC News Desk: A team of CBI officials led by Special Director Ajay Bhatnagar has arrived in Manipur to investigate the murder of two teenagers who went missing in July, according to Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
Biren Singh told a press conference that Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured him that those responsible for the kidnapping and murder of the two would be apprehended and punished.
"They have begun their investigation after landing in Imphal," the chief minister stated, without revealing where the CBI team has gone.
Photos of the bodies of the two missing teenagers went viral on social media, sparking student protests across the state on Tuesday.
Earlier on Tuesday, Manipur re-imposed a ban on mobile internet access amid violent protests over the horrifying murder of two teens, which came to life after images of their bodies went viral on social media. The ban will be in effect until Sunday.
The development comes just a few days after the state government withdrew similar orders that had been in place for five months. The internet was banned in Manipur amid ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki tribes that killed over 175 people and injured hundreds.
