Champai Soren takes oath as Jharkhand CM; Governor calls for majority proof within 10 days

PTC Web Desk:  Jharkhand minister Champai Soren took oath as Chief Minister on Friday, two days after Hemant Soren's arrest. Earlier, Jharkhand Governor CP Radhakrishnan designated Champai Soren, a leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, as the Chief Minister and extended an invitation for the oath-taking ceremony, while also requiring him to prove his majority within 10 days.

The delay in Champai Soren's oath ceremony had been a point of concern for various leaders. Despite claiming majority support to form the government, Champai Soren, along with Congress legislative party leader Alamgir Alam, RJD MLA Satyanand Bhokta, CPI (ML) L legislator Vinod Singh, and lawmaker Pradeep Yadav, met the Governor on Thursday evening.

Following the meeting, 39 coalition MLAs, including Hemant Soren's brother and MLA Basant Soren, were set to fly to Hyderabad. However, adverse weather conditions and poor visibility prevented the flight from taking off.

Champai Soren assumed leadership of the JMM legislative party after Hemant Soren resigned late Wednesday evening as Chief Minister due to an investigation by the Enforcement Directorate into a money laundering case, leading to his subsequent arrest. As the political landscape in Jharkhand undergoes these changes, Champai Soren is poised to take on the responsibilities of leading the state.
