Chandigarh cancels all medical staff leaves, issues 24x7 emergency alert post Operation Sindoor
PTC Web Desk: Following India’s Operation Sindoor airstrikes on terror camps in Pakistan, the Chandigarh administration has placed all healthcare services on high alert. The Health Director of the National Health Mission (Chandigarh UT) has issued an order canceling all leaves of medical officers and staff, directing them to remain available for emergency duty 24/7.
According to the directive, medical personnel posted at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs) and Urban Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (UAAMs) must be prepared to report for duty at any time. Strict disciplinary action has been warned for failure to respond to emergency calls or not reporting immediately when required.
Disaster ward and emergency access prepared at PGI
PGI Medical Superintendent Prof Vipin Kaushal confirmed that a disaster ward and a separate entry gate have been prepared on the Nehru ground floor. While the facility is currently being used for regular patient care, it is fully equipped for emergency response. Appointment of nodal officers for disaster management, similar to protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic, is expected shortly.
Director of Health Services Dr Suman Singh stated that nursing superintendents have been instructed to train staff in handling patients and their attendants during crisis situations. Black chart paper has been installed in wards without curtains to ensure patient privacy. During mock drills, the use of mobile phones by patients and their families was restricted.
PGI’s library and pharmacy have also been put on alert. ICU and HDU facilities were inspected by Dr Sanjeev Palta, and the trauma block is being readied as a makeshift hospital if required. The pharmacy department has been directed to maintain adequate stock of essential medicines. In case of an emergency, vehicle movement in and out of the hospital premises will be strictly regulated.
