Amritsar police bust international arms smuggling network, Afghan national among four arrested

PTC News Desk: The Amritsar Commissionerate Police has busted an internationally operated illegal arms smuggling and hawala network in a major crackdown. Four accused persons, including an Afghan national, were arrested during the operation.

Police recovered eight sophisticated pistols and seven live cartridges from their possession.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused were linked to a foreign-based network involved in the illegal supply of weapons. The network allegedly smuggled arms into India through designated drop locations in border areas. These weapons were then distributed to local criminals for use in various illegal and criminal activities.

Hawala Funding and Organised Crime Conspiracy

According to police, the gang also used hawala channels for financial transactions, making the network more organised and difficult to trace. The recovered weapons were reportedly intended for supply to criminal elements, posing a threat to law and order in the region.

FIRs Registered in Amritsar

Two separate FIRs have been registered at Islamabad Police Station and Gate Hakima Police Station. Investigators are now probing both the backward and forward linkages of the network to identify other individuals involved and determine the extent of its international connections.

Police officials said further arrests and recoveries are likely as the investigation progresses. The Punjab Police reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against illegal arms trafficking, hawala operations and organised crime in the state.
