IMD warns of heavy rain in Kerala, intense showers in Delhi as monsoon tightens grip in Southwest
PTC News Desk: Heavy rainfall continued across parts of Kerala on Monday as the southwest monsoon remained active over the state, prompting the India Meteorological Department to issue orange and yellow alerts in several districts.
An orange alert has been issued for Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod, with the IMD warning of isolated very heavy rainfall between 11 cm and 20 cm.
A yellow alert is in place for multiple districts, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram and Wayanad, indicating the possibility of heavy rainfall at isolated locations.
The weather department also reported further advancement of the southwest monsoon over parts of the west-central Bay of Bengal, the entire northeast Bay of Bengal and additional areas of the northwest Bay of Bengal.
Elsewhere, rainfall activity is expected to increase across northwestern India during the week. The IMD has forecast rain over Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir–Ladakh–Gilgit-Baltistan–Muzaffarabad and Uttarakhand. Rain is also likely over Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab and western parts of Uttar Pradesh between June 11 and 13.
