Congress leader Trilochan Singh who contested against Khattar, Saini joins BJP ahead of municipal polls
PTC News Desk: In a significant setback to Congress in Haryana, Trilochan Singh who once contested against former CM Manohar Lal Khattar and CM Nayab Singh Saini has now joined BJP on Tuesday just ahead of municipal corporation elections in Haryana. Singh joined the saffron party in presence of Haryana CM Saini at his residence.
Singh who switched sides nearly after four decades had been an active member of Congress who had raised several issues on grassroots level. The development is also significant as the defection comes ahead of municipal elections and Congress is battling to make a political comeback after a crushing defeat in Haryana assembly election.
The joining ceremony of Trilochan Singh also witnessed several other political faces joining BJP with Chief Minister Saini welcoming Singh saying, "The pillar of Congress has joined BJP today. Karnal has already decided that on March 12, our candidate Renu Bala Gupta will win by huge margins."
The municipal elections, set for March 2, will see voting in 33 urban local bodies, including eight municipal corporations - Gurugram, Manesar, Faridabad, Hisar, Karnal, Panipat, Rohtak, and Yamunanagar. The counting of votes is scheduled for March 12.
